Calvary Garden

A Misunderstood Heritage Site

This Calvary Garden is a very charming space that, quite often, not many residents and tourists know about. It is now owned by the City of Carcassonne and remains dedicated to Christian worship. This strategic site, renamed over the centuries Tour Grosse, Bastion des moulins then Calvary Garden, deserves particular attention.

The thorough renovation of this exceptional stronghold-calvary-cemetery-garden is part of the plans.

Behind the Entrance Portal

Pass by the imposing entrance portal and stop in front of the Statue de Notre Dame. Take a step back and look closely at the ground…

Let's Take A Closer Look...

Pebbles of different colors represent the three crosses of Golgotha (at the top) and a shape that looks like an eye (at the bottom) unless it is a terrestrial representation. At the center, a red pebble is only visible where the sun is at a certain time of the day.
