Huberdeau

Ghylaine et Frédéric Back Park

Here we have Ghylaine and Frédéric Back with their dog Mali. Frédéric Back worked in both the visual arts and cinema fields.  Back was a highly committed artist, “a pioneer in the environmentalist movement” who denounced logging practices in various places around the world. He also used his art to protest against intensive agriculture and factory farming, sports hunting, overfishing, urban and industrial pollution, etc.

This photo was taken at their farm in Huberdeau at the end of the 1990s. You can view some of their numerous works online at a website dedicated to the artist: www.fredericback.com (photo: Frédéric Back and Ghylaine Paquin Back, Atelier Frédéric Back).

“Au fil de l’eau”

This work, entitled “Au fil de l’eau,” means “Flowing waters” and was created by Laurentian artist Diane Gonthier in 2014-2015 with lots of help from the population of Huberdeau. The work highlights the symbolic and historic importance of the Rivière Rouge, the key element in the identity of the Huberdeau community.
