Saint-Victor 's Western Festivities started out in 1977, when Mr. Martial Gosselin, owner of the Mathieu Hotel, organized three days of celebrations with bands and a demolition derby. In 1978, Mr. Lucien Lessard, a horse lover, partnered with Mr. Gosselin to organize a horse pulling event. The next year, they partnered with Mr. Laurier Roy, Mr. Guy Fluet and Mr. Robert Rodrigue to create the Western Festivities Founding Committee. Programming for the first edition included rides, horse pulling, demolition derby, parade and amateur event. The Festivities took place on City Hall grounds.
