Presentation of Maison Bélisle

The Maison Bélisle is one of the oldest preserved houses in Vieux-Terrebonne. It was built in 1759 by Jacques Perras. The latter managed the mills and warehouses of Terrebonne and was responsible for supplying the King's stores. During the American Revolution, the building serves as a field hospital to the 84th regiment of the British army, then stationed in Terrebonne.

Today it bears the name of “Maison Bélisle” in honor of the last family to live in this property.

October 30th, 1973, it is classified as a historic monument by the Quebec government. The Société de Développement Culturelle de Terrebonne” (SODECT) is responsible for the management and  of this historic site. In February 1999, the house is completely destroyed by fire. Fortunately, Terrebonne quickly proceeds to its restoration.

Answer and explanation - Question #1

2) Maison de Pays de Lanaudière

In 2002, this building is given the name and the vocation of “Maison de Pays” (Country House) for the Lanaudière region. Following a complete restoration inside and out, the Country House has become a cultural showcase. Its mission is to promote artisans, artists, local products and the history of the region, thanks in part to the various exhibitions and conferences it hosts. The name changed in 2009. The Country House is now the Maison Bélisle. It presents the permanent exhibition "Il était une fois... Terrebonne!” and several temporary exhibitions upstairs.

Head to the next stop in front of the Théâtre du Vieux-Terrebonne. If you want, you can climb the stairs outside the building for a better view of the next site.
