Arcade Desjardins House

49 Morin Street - Arcade Desjardins House

Grégoire Rochon bought the house in 1926. Arcade Desjardins (1872–1956) acquired it in 1939 and lived there until his death in 1956. His wife Annie McGuire resided there until 1973.

Son of Israël Desjardins, one of Sainte-Adèle’s early pioneers, Arcade Desjardins was an experienced businessman and pawnbroker in addition to working as a road work inspector in Sainte-Adèle. A man of importance, he was a friend of Claude-Henri Grignon. In fact, many saw in him the same personality traits as Séraphin Poudrier.
Both he and his brother Sigefroi form an integral part of the history of Sainte-Adèle. They leave many descendants that are still very involved in the community.

Brick houses are not very common in the city. You had to be well-off to have one. Elements of the house include decorative brackets. The second floor is particularly interesting with its square oculus and original wooden features.
