Sir Pierre-Amand Landry House

The Landry house was built in 1872, and is known as The Maples.  It is a three-storey, Second Empire style house with two single-storey front bay windows and side porches.  Various decorative brackets under the main mansard roof and the other roof lines give a unique elegance to this home.
 

Sir Pierre-Amand Landry (1846-1916) was a lawyer, politician, and judge.  He was born in Memramcook, New Brunswick, 1 May 1846.  He articled in the law office of Albert James Smith and in 1871, became the first Acadian lawyer in the province.  Landry was elected to the House of Commons in 1883.  In 1890 he was named judge in the county court of Westmorland and Kent, and in 1893, was appointed to the Supreme Court of New Brunswick.  Landry was knighted in June 1916, the first and only Acadian to be so honoured.
