This viewpoint is part of the Rim Trail and the Greenway Trail starts here. The view is impressive. The trail generally follows the 1912 alignment of Hermit Road. There are ten points of view, including Pima Point, as well as many rest areas along the trail. Monument Creek features a permanent creek and created fierce rapids where it meets Colorado River.
Contrary to popular opinion, the Colorado River rapids in Grand Canyon aren't the remains of ancient falls. When a rainstorm or prolonged rain falls in a side canyon, the resulting overflow goes faster while descending the steep slopes of the rocks and the lands with scarce vegetation. The debris form a small dam in the river. The river goes faster over the submerged rocks, creating a rapid.
