The park of Sainte-Amélie grotto was set up in 1947 in honor of the Virgin Mary by the Holy Cross Sisters. The site received the blessing of Archbishop Napoléon-Alexandre Labrie on the 29th of May 1950.It is to Sister of St. John Apostle that we owe the realization of the park. Born in Manchester, New Hampshire, and daughter of an American father and a Québécoise mother, she was graduate of the School of Fine Arts of Montreal. At her death in 1999, she left behind a project honouring her religious order, but also many students from the region, to whom she had shared her passion for the arts with.
