The Old Caisse Populaire (1940)

1090 Valiquette Street

The Caisse Populaire of Sainte-Adèle established its first counter in the 1940s. The company then moved a few houses down to where we find the MRC des Pays-d’en-Haut today. The shoemaker Antonio Bell occupied the building for several years before it was turned into a chocolate shop.

The façade of this small business has various interesting features. A glass window above the main door is called a transom window. The two large windows are framed in wood. The roof of the house has various pitches and pediments pointing in several directions, probably testifying to the many changes over time. The red sheet metal roof and white walls endow it with a distinctive charm.
