Architecture of standardized products

Houses were, of course, more affordable and simpler to build. They were generally rectangular and large.

The options included duplexes with two distinct units one on top of the other; multiple-unit homes with one shared access to individual apartments from the outside; and multipurpose buildings. The roofs were flat, either with a gentle slope to the back or with a central drain.

Flat-roofed homes were sometimes decorated in the front with pediments, crowns, and end-ornaments, and occasionally with cornices. The houses’ window and door openings were evenly spaced from one level to the other, while window models varied significantly.
